The sociologist Christa Wichterich works as a freelance publicist, novelist, an assistant lecturer at various universities, and consultant in the field of development cooperation. The focal points of her work are globalization and gender, female labour, international feminist politics, the women`s movement, and ecology. Wichterich has served as a university instructor in Iran and India, as well as a correspondent to Africa in Kenya. She has also taken part in many significant international conferences, from the 3rd World Women`s Conference in 1985 in Nairobi to the 6th WTO Ministerial Conference in 2005 in Hong Kong. The main geographical focuses of her work are South Asia as well as East and South Africa. Wichterich is a member of the academic advisory board of Attac Germany and engages herself in pro bono work for WIDE (Women in Development Europe).
